UPCOMING/MILITARY EVENTS

In September OBE celebrates Patriot Week. This week is centered around Patriot Day and Constitution Day. Classroom teachers teach the importance of these dates though a variety of interactive lessons.

We have school-wide dress up days to honor and remember our military, first responders, and military children, as well as promoting our communities of OBE Sea Turtles and Gulf Breeze Dolphins

In November we celebrate Veterans Day. Classroom teachers teach the history and importance of Veterans Day though a variety of interactive lessons. OBE maintains a Wall of Honor where past and present OBE affiliated service members and their families can add pictures.

In April we celebrate the Month of the Military Child. A day is designated as the day to wear purple to show support to our military children for their service to our country. We also provide our military students with a token of appreciation.

Student Led Transition Programs

The Purple Turtles, a team of 5th grade student leaders, provide new military students with tours of our school; during the tour, the students answer questions about OBE. Our MFLC supports this team. Our MFLC connects new students with other military students in their grade to aid in their transition; our MFLC then follows up with these teams to help new students with their transition. Please reach out to our MFLC for more information.

School Based Mental Health

When changing schools, it is normal for some students to experience challenges with adjustment.  Other common challenges students may experience are related to peer relationships, coping with deployment or separation, sibling rivalry, self-regulation, anxiety, or anger management.

OBE’s has a team of mental health professionals who work together to meet the needs of OBE children and families.
